Week 8 Plagiarism and Copyright

This week the task was very unique it gave us the opportunity to really excel with our ideas and do some hardcore group work. Todays lesson was very dynamic and a lot of discussion went on. We decided to do a storyboard following the story of what happens when a student decides to copy or plagiarise their work. I think that this is a very effective means of teaching new students how to avoid copying other people's work and they say "A picture speaks a thousand words" and since we have a camera it would be clever to make use of it.

Today's taks was very exciting here are some people working in their cohorts.

This week required a lot of acting skills

Hopefully next week we can finally take the family picture. (group)

design a leaflet for final year students

we were ask to design a leaflet for final year students who are choosing their options. the Unit is Social Technology.

Week 7

The group members have met up and have decided to bring in the camera next week for the group photos again as the last one was not very professional looking. We have made an announcemnet to the whole class telling them of this and that also individual photos will be taken as well.
We were supposed to take group photos today however due to unforseen weather circumstances we were unable to do so.

Picasa

Definitions of Picasa

"Picasa" is a blend of the name of Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa for "my house" and "pic" for pictures (personalized art)”

Picasa

Picasa is a free tool that allows you to editing and organizing your photos using free software on Google, which is indeed much to offer. Picasa is a program that runs on Windows and other difference windows and it can be downloaded from http://picasa.google.com/.

Find Your Photos
When you install Picasa, it asks if you want to scan your computer completely, or if you just want to clear the desktop, files, documents and folders. I really suggest you limit your search to only those folders if you have more than one hard disk, or you're been storing photos in strange places.
When Picasa scans your computer completely, you will receive temporary Internet files and graphics from computer programs, and other images that you may have in your photo album. You can remove the files later, but this is not the easiest to import the first place. You can also import photos directly from your digital camera, which is an easy way to keep the organization since the beginning.
Organize Your Photos
Picasa will organize your photos by date and stored in the structure of the first file name on the hard disk. Important areas to show thumbnails of your images and the right side of the navigation bar. The Library of thumbnails groups the folders together, but all of this is image is showing. And that means that it will not put pressure on the information several times to move to the new folder, which is a nice touch. You can move the thumbnail images from one folder to another directly from Picasa, and confirm and then transfer the file to your hard drive. An easy way to organize albums and digital images.
Overall
This is one of the best tools I saw a picture at any price. Integration with other Google products, and shopping, Blogger and YouTube, and this are a good thing really should not be associated with an image processor for printing. Picasa presents a comparison with iLife on the Apple, and it is really positive. Version of Mac OS is still in experimental stage, but it is also worth study. If you have digital images, I would certainly recommend Picasa for anyone to use.

Group Pictures

Summer is coming back, this was great day to take a group picture of the class. We decided to take the whole class outside  for a quick group picture. However, we are little bit dissapointed with the result for various reasons which you can find below:

  • We had some students who were absent during the day
  • One or more student seems to be looking away or in a different direction
  • There are different moods in the group (some smiling, some serious, some playing around)

Overall we are happy with the outcome and we can improve next time by preparing the group and letting everyone know that we will be taking photos.

After a hard days work

Just some random pictures we took. Hope you enjoy.

Virtual Lives

Children are happier in their lives often on the Internet than they are with reality, a survey showed. Say can be exactly who they want to be - and once something is no longer fun, they can simply click Finish. It provides a form of escapism where children can act talk and chat however they want with whomever. If they don’t feel happy they have the option of quitting the browser and come back when they feel like it.

The study also shows that despite concerns about safety on the Internet, one of eight young people to communicate with strangers when the Internet and are often at their age, appearance and origin. As with many stories that appear in online games and virtual worlds are drawn lazy real differences between the two worlds "and" virtual. "We passed some of the best relationships more in real life," says reporter spiffily arguing that the friendships in the game can be extended in many cases, outside the game world. And this is only at this stage to take effect, right? The online virtual world is change the way we communicate and social interact, It is easier to be who you want because nobody knows you and if you do not like the situation you can just go out and get it done. Because people are happier to do this, especially the young the kids.

It seems realistic to the point at which some people may become hooked on it or addicted. In this world you can behave how you want to and not necessarily how you live physically. You can make your player beautiful or even intelligent you can change your profile so that it is the complete opposite to what you are in the real world.

This is because in the real world we don’t have the ability or control over what we do how we look like who we interact with such as the opposite sex etc. this world gives you the ability to have a virtual identity and escape the stress of the real world. The people in the world seem nicer because you have control over what happens who does what etc. for some people it clearly provides escapism because in the virtual world you can be whatever you want to be and act.

During the photo take!!

As a photographer, our main target was to meet our clients recommendation. We agreed with our project managers to get the photos taken as soon as possible so it can be available for other deparments.

During this task I noticed that week four exercises was sort of related to us for instance, as a photographer we had to cooperate and collaborate with the clients. We took at least four Photos per client and they had the rights to pick the picture they felt most comfortable and confident with. Furthermore, majority of the students cooperated by dressing smart as we asked them to do so and as photographers we got the satisfaction of making the clients happy.

What is the idea behind releasing unfinished product such as Google Wave?

In this article we will be demonstrating the consumers power and what is behind a successful product/tool. Moreover, how big brands will benefit releasing unfinished product and what is the idea behind it.

By releasing this project in unfinished format, the users, customers or the public can benefit by adjusting to their needs. Moreover, it would be us that will use this wave project and by getting our feedback, Google would be able to meet our demands. They also will benefit a lot through marketing in terms of the name Wave going around before it has been published. Google can find out more information about their audience in terms of where they are based, what age group etc. By collecting this information Google will have advantage as it they will become more competitive.

Google is aiming us to test their project for them so they can come out with new ideas in order for them to improve their unfinished product. Furthermore, they want us to lay the red carpet by telling everyone that we have used this great thing that is coming out. They also expecting less cost, as we are marketing, testing and readjusting it to our needs.

For example, couple years ago when Wii sport console game was released, the control pads had wires attached to it, then users started complaining about it as it is very difficult to play sports game with a wired control pads. In this case what Wii did was to arrange a focus group, where they came up with the idea that it should have wireless control pads. Wii is now one of the successful product in the game consol industry.

However we are collaborating and cooperating with Google as Google is expecting to save money and build trust with their clients and not ruing their brand image. In addition, comparing Google business model to other big brands such as Apple they operate differently as Apple has control of everything, whereas Google lets the users develop the product further.

I will be giving examples of products/tools which rely on collaboration and are distributed free for the users to use it for everyday use in terms of communication, search engine or making their opinion heard.

Facebook- is the biggest social network at the moment, it allows the public to collaborate and cooperate in variety of ways such as setting up a group. For example, the Middle East demonstration had Facebook as one of their main communication tool.

Twitter is a website where you can collaborate and cooperate with others by sharing ideas. Similarly, Twitter is used to promote products, operates like email marketing where you can send content, survey, send personal messages and promote all in one day.

Our third example is Blackberry Messenger, it gives the Blackberry users a quick, easy way to send instant messages to each other using their Pin codes. It’s free and unlike email, users can carry on several conversations at the same time. They can also chat in a group, see their contact’s availability, send file and track message status while you are on the move. This is a very effective way of collaborating and cooperating with users who you know and share common interests.

Overall, this works in today’s market, as we consumers are becoming more demanding. By getting our point of view company’s can improve their unfinished products and get the sense of what we want and as consumers it is great to always be involved in such great product.

Google expects these people to contribute on their product, by demonstrating to a set audition. Google are showing the effort to make this work and as they have a big brand, the people will feel special being invited to the presentation and work close with a big company. Google is expecting these people to collaborate and cooperate with them in return achieving a product that meets users needs.

Furthermore, if the users don’t read the Wave it appears with yellow color, edited and read parts it appears in green. However, this is unfinished product, pear in mind that it can have more functions later on.

We have learned that collaboration and cooperation, are very important in today’s word, as we are in economic crisis is good to maintain the cost, by working with others and putting different ideas into one and having the same goal. We learned that collaboration and cooperation there is always benefits in it no matter what side you are in and you always learn from others working with them.
Hope you all enjoyed reading the article. More articles will be posted.

What are the benefits of cooperation & collaboration in todays world?

The article is based on a video that we watched, as a photographer is important to understand the different between cooperation and collaboration. In addition, we have answered other questions to show our understanding.

In this article we will be looking at these questions based on the video and in general. Furthermore, we will be explaining the users contribution in cooperating and collaborating everyday without them knowing it.

Cooperation means working together so both of our needs will be met, for example as photographers we advised our clients to dress smart for their Photos. The clients are cooperating by dressing smart, which will make them look professional and stylish.
As a photographer I will get the satisfaction of making the client happy and getting more experience working with customers. Whereas collaboration means working together to create something big outcome for example what we do at the soctech, we all working on different tasks to achieve one big outcome.

The dogs are cooperating with the shepherd as they have been trained to follow orders. However, dogs are unaware of the aims of the extreme shepherding, it would be extremely hard to do without them as the dogs are the part of the plan. The shepherds and the camera crews are collaborating and they are aware of the aims of the project.

In this case sheep’s are just trying to follow their sheep leader, as we know sheep don’t like being separated from the pack.

The shepherds in this video are very experienced they have one of the best shepherds in the world. With their variety of skills they learned how to be patient as this is an advantage working with sheep or any animal. However, with these skills working with sheep in this unusual situation makes it more enjoyable and learning curve on how a sheep behaves.

In this case not everyone, as it involves many animals which makes it difficult to communicate with. The best way to communicate with animals is by getting another animal that they respect and are little bit scared of. Having a dog that’s been trained and obeys the shepherds orders, will allow you to have a goal and successful outcome. The goal are set by shepherds and camera crew. They are communicating with their devices to achieve their goal so their collaborating and cooperating in this case is by having the sheep running around without understanding the goal and the dog is just doing their daily routine.

After watching this video couple of time we realised how interesting it is and how branding message is hidden. You don’t realise it is a Samsung promotion until the very end while you are still amazed. However, Samsung did not spend money on marketing, they let us do the job for them by sharing the video with friends and family members by emailing them or tagging them on the video. This is another example of collaborating and cooperating without us knowing it, but somehow everyone is benefiting in this video, the shepherds are by showing their skills and getting recognition all over the world, camera crew are showing their great idea and knowledge of using technology, whereas we benefiting by sharing with others and having the feeling that it had been generated by farmers, shepherds and encourage the public to do the same or who ever finds it interested.

Class exercise

Who owns the photos taken by the girl in the video?

I believe the owner of the photos is the actual girl and her boyfriend it was meant to be between them. However, ones she send it the photos it was out of her hand, she wasn’t the owner anymore. As a result someone uploaded them on online, so everyone has the access to see it.

What do you understand by the term ‘Digital Footprint’?

Digital Footprint is everything on the internet that is about you, for example this could be your Facebook, MySpace profiles, photographs that you, your friends or family have posted online. In addition, anything you have written or that has been written about you.

Should employers have access to your life on line?

Depends on the Footprint as some offers many advantages, for example you can build positive online presence that showcases your skills, experience and interests. Moreover, with some online sites, you can control the information about you that is publicly available.  In addition, professional networking sites can give you access to potential employers, whose digital footprint you can also check.

Take a look at your own Facebook area. Would you be happy for classmates to see it? Staff? Your project supervisor (who may write you a reference). A future employer? Your parents? Your grandmother? What if things you put up there today followed you forever?

I manage my profile very well as I am very private person. Moreover, if anybody visited  my Facebook profile today, such as future employer it would not affect me anyway. I make sure to manage my contributions carefully, since much of the information stored online becomes public by default.

How about parents. Do they have the right to put up ‘cute’ photos of their children when that image might be associated with their child forever?

In my opinion, I would say they should avoid putting up pictures of the children as you don’t want strangers to know where your child are throughout the day and your family patterns.  Sharing information with the world is not the safest option for the children.

Why is it so important that teenagers understand the digital footprint?

Teenagers should keep in mind that digital footprints lasts longer and can be published without their consent. They should be aware of the possible consequences that might have on their life and the legacy their online activity will leave.

Is it ok to forward mail without permission?

I believe that once you click on the send button and the email reaches the recipient’s account, it becomes their property and they are free to do whatever they want with it. If you want the email to be strictly confidential, you should clearly mark the email private and confidential so that the receiver is fully aware of the conditions.

Week 3 Task - Digital Footprint

1. Who owns the photos taken by the girl in the video?

The girl owns the photo.

2. What do you understand by the term ‘Digital Footprint’?

A digital footprint is the size of an individual’s online presence; as it relates to the number of individuals they interact with.

3. What implications does it have?

Digital footprints are not a digital identity or passport, but the meta data collected impacts upon internet privacy, trust, security, digital reputation, and recommendation. Digital footprints are notorious in that privacy and openness are in competition.

While a digital footprint can be used to infer personal information without their knowledge, it also exposes individuals’ private psychological sphere into the social sphere.

4. Should employers have access to your life on line?

No, because an employee’s private life should not affect their work life.

5. Take a look at your own Facebook area. Would you be happy for classmates to see it? Staff? Your project supervisor (who may write you a reference). A future employer? Your parents? Your grandmother? What if things you put up there today followed you forever?

I would not be happy for my grandmother or my parents to see it, but this is a non issue as neither knows how to operate Facebook. I have no problem in having classmates see it. I am less enthused about having my future employer seeing it, because while ones private life should be kept separate from their work life, some employers may judge even when they shouldn’t.

6. How about parents. Do they have the right to put up ‘cute’ photos of their children when that image might be associated with their child forever?

Yes

7. Why is it so important that teenagers understand the digital footprint?

It is important because they need to realise the consequences of having their personal pictures end up in the wrong hands.

8. The girl in the video wants to blame someone. Think about what happened. Identify the things that were done that weren’t acceptable and explain why they were unacceptable.

The fact that her boyfriend sent her picture to his friends was unacceptable because those pictures were only intended for him and he shouldn’t have sent out those pictures without her permission. However she is in part to blame as well because she should not have trusted him.

9. Is it ok to forward mail without permission?

No. You should ask permission from the email sender.

10. Is it ok to forward photos without permission?

No. You should ask permission from the person that took the photo
